Ultrasonic Testing goes high-tech in Rancho Dominguez

The nondestructive testing department of Stork Material Testing & Inspection (SMT&I) in Rancho Dominguez, California, has upgraded the computer system one of its Turntable Ultrasonic Testing tanks, bringing UT further into the digital age.

Computer hardware and a specialized software program have long been part of the ultrasonic process, but not with complete C-Scan Data acquisition, a 6-axis scanning capability, and the integration of the 46” turntable into a Windows operating system. “Our inspection process now uses a software program called Winflex, which automatically corrects distance amplitude and reduces noise interference. It will give us more accurate and more comprehensive data—faster—and eliminate over- and under-inspections,” says Robert Fenton, SMT UT inspector. “We can also now store into memory the calibration standard for each part number, so recalibration projects on repeat parts will be greatly streamlined.”

Windows and Winflex work together to provide another benefit to clients with time-sensitive projects—real-time online test results securely viewable through StorkView. For more information about SMT’s web-based jobs-monitoring system, click here.
