SMT to present automotive industry testing paper at ANTEC 2005
NEW BERLIN, WI - February 11, 2005
The Society of Plastics Engineers has accepted a paper from Stork Technimet Senior Polymer Scientist Jeff Jansen, to be presented at ANTEC, their Annual Technical Conference. The conference runs from May 1 to May 5, 2005, in Boston at the Hynes Convention Center. Jansen will speak on Tuesday, May 3 at 10:30 a.m. as part of the Failure Analysis Special Interest Group section of the Society.
Jansen's paper is titled Environmental Stress Cracking: Examples from the Automotive Industry and the abstract for the presentation is as follows:
Four case studies are presented to illustrate environmental stress cracking (ESC) within automotive components. ESC is a very important mode of plastic component failure. The presented cases illustrate how the failure analysis process was used to identify the failure mechanism as well as the primary factors responsible for the failures. The four cases depict representative automotive failures involving varied designs and service conditions.
