Stork SMT Product Evaluation services profiled on TV news

ST. PAUL, MN - June 21, 2005

Always an important issue, mattress fire safety received national attention on June 21 when CBS Evening News aired a primetime story on the subject. "Beds Are Burning" touched on recent fire safety legislation for mattresses in California. Known as California Technical Bulletin 603 (TB603), the guideline ensures that mattresses subjected to an open flame burn at a certain rate and emit a low enough level of heat to provide the largest possible window of safe escape for its occupant.

Stork Twin City Testing's Product Evaluation department in St. Paul, Minnesota, is one of only 5 independent bedding laboratories testing to TB603 compliance. Stork TCT was asked for information about the procedure by local CBS affiliate, WCCO-TV, following the national broadcast. To protect our clients' confidentiality, the news crew was given very limited access to the flame chamber and other laboratories. The resulting program, which aired on July 28, 2004, on the local 10 p.m. news broadcast, told a different side of the story¾ how Stork TCT and our clients create partnerships to comply with required standards and legislation, and to ensure safe and comfortable goods.

At Stork SMT, we know that our clients take their projects as seriously as we do. Working together, we make the world a little stronger and safer. For more information about Product and Bedding Evaluation, contact matt.horton@stork.com.
