Stork Climax Research Services, Inc. is a member of the Stork Materials Technology (SMT) group of companies.

Stork Climax Research Services (CRS) is a full-service company that provides metallurgical engineering and testing located in Wixom.  Stork CRS has testing capabilities and expert personnel who perform metallography; automated image analysis; scanning electron microscopy; chemical analysis; mechanical and fatigue testing; corrosion testing; and wear testing.  The Stork CRS engineering staff has consulting experts in ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, casting, welding, electrical engineering, failure analysis and expert witnessing.  Our engineering experts analyze and solve problems in all grades of cast iron, aluminum, magnesium, steel and copper alloys.  We conduct failure analyses, research, educational courses, defect analyses, and consult on process development for automotive companies and suppliers, other industrial clients and funding agencies.

Summary of position

Responsible for generating and managing projects to ensure jobs are completed on-schedule, within projected budgets, and with a high level of professionalism, quality and customer service. 

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain business in area of expertise. 
  • Discuss prospective work with clients to evaluate their needs, develop, recommend test plans, determine work scope, and solve customer engineering problems. 
  • Help to quickly resolve customer complaints, while balancing the interests of both the customer and Stork. 
  • Prepare written proposals, schedule tests, analyze test results, prepare high-quality reports and submit invoices.
  • Establish and maintain client contact for the purposes of market/account development, understanding customers’ needs, building personal relationships, ensuring satisfaction, and maintaining a professional consulting image.
  • Assist with marketing, promoting, developing and growing of engineering business including team days, technical presentations, technical articles, etc.
  • Work with sales staff to identify and develop new sales opportunities. 
  • Exceed the company’s billing hour and sales requirements.
Education

MS degree with 3 years work experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years work experience and PE certification.

Experience Consulting experience in either mechanical or materials engineering.  Work experience in one or more of the following areas:  mechanical engineering, ferrous and nonferrous metals (especially wrought magnesium), nonmetallic materials, corrosion, automotive components, design, finite element analysis, litigation and expert witnessing.

Additional knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, and licenses

  • Experience in managing business relationships, both internal and external, where conflicting priorities of team members must be managed with customer satisfaction as primary goal. 
  • Availability, flexibility and maturity to represent the company at a broad range of events in the community, with customers and within the company.
  • Ability to interface with clients, win new work and determine their requirements to develop proposals including cost estimates and work plan.
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Ability to develop and present marketing and educational PowerPoint “Team Day” presentations.
  • Developed oral and written communication skills to interact with Stork personnel and client customer contacts.
  • Experience operating standard office software programs and computer systems.
  • Ability to travel, including some overnight trips.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle within Company policy, which requires a valid driver's license.
Physical requirements

Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Degree of required physical force:  Light <20 lbs. of force.  Frequency of required physical force: Occasional (moderate).  Normal office environment.
