Description of operational unit

Stork Twin City Testing Inc. is a member of the Stork Materials Technology (SMT) group of companies.

Our facility in St. Paul, Minnesota is the headquarters for Stork Twin City Testing. Since 1938, Twin City Testing has provided testing and inspection services to the upper northwest. Acquired by Stork in 1998, Stork TCT is now the most diverse testing laboratory in the Midwest.

Summary of position

The primary function of a Metals Technician I is to perform simple, routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. Assists higher classified technicians to perform more complex tasks. Work is checked in progress and upon completion. This position is a technician level and reports to the Department Manager.

Essential duties/ responsibilities
  • Conducts a variety of tests using established methods. Prepares test specimens, sets up and adjusts test equipment and records test data.
  • Summarizes test results using basic mathematical calculations and data reductions.
  • Maintains related test equipment, tools and machinery in good working condition.
  • Ensures all work is performed in accordance with company procedures and regulatory agencies’ regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Completion of a two-year program of technical/vocational training or equivalent experience, preferred but not required.
Experience

Minimum experience level: 0-2 years work experience.

Experience Areas
  • Must have good mathematical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated success in Excel and Word programs.
  • Must have a mechanical aptitude and familiarity with basic hand and power tools.

Physical requirements

Physical Attributes:

  • Frequency of required physical force: Often (moderate).
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to carry items up and down stairs.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily indoors.
