Stork TCT opens new windows testing service

SAINT PAUL , MN —Stork Twin City Testing announced its newest testing service: thermal simulation for National Fenestration Rating Council labeling. An NFRC label on a window or door gives information about 3 thermal characteristics:

  • NFRC 100 – U-Factor (how well a product prevents heat from escaping)
  • NFRC 200 – Solar Heat Gain Coefficient -SHGC (how well a product blocks heat caused by sunlight)
  • Visible Light Transmittance -VT (how much light comes through a product)
  • NFRC 400 – Air Leakage (the cubic feet of air passing though a square foot of window area)

Stork TCT Engineer Staci Bartelt explained the program, “The labels on a fenestration product provide important manufacturing information about its thermal properties. In order to earn an Energy Star label, your product needs to achieve good ratings in NFRC 100 and NFRC 200. Architects, builders, and consumers are looking more and more at all the ratings in an NFRC label to decide on the right fenestration products for their projects.”

In addition to NFRC simulation, Stork TCT performs the following evaluations on windows and doors:

  • air/water infiltration
  • structural testing
  • impact and cycling (ASTM)
  • wind load cycling
  • Miami Dade County testing
  • safety glazing testing (SGCC)
  • environmental simulation
  • acoustical evaluation
  • Stork Twin City Testing has provided materials testing and inspection since 1938 and is part of an international network of testing and inspection laboratories. For more information about Stork TCT and the Stork network, please contact info.tct@stork.com.
