Description of operational unit

Stork Twin City Testing Inc. is a member of the Stork Materials Technology (SMT) group of companies.

Our facility in St. Paul, Minnesota is the headquarters for Stork Twin City Testing. Since 1938, Twin City Testing has provided testing and inspection services to the upper northwest. Acquired by Stork in 1998, Stork TCT is now the most diverse testing laboratory in the Midwest.

Summary of position

The primary function of the CME Construction Materials/Engineering Technician II is to provide construction representative services on small projects or part of a large project.  Perform standard or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations.  Follows standard work methods and receives detailed instructions on unfamiliar assignments.  Technical adequacy of routine work is assessed upon completion. 

Non-routine work is reviewed in progress.

This position reports to CME Field and Laboratory Coordinator/Supervisor.

Essential duties/ responsibilities
  • Review/monitor construction activity of a limited number of trades, including quality of work, and prepare daily reports to document construction progress and activities.
  • Set up, conduct and analyze standard field tests following prescribed procedures.
  • Examine and analyze test results and explains unusual findings.
  • Solve technical problems using application of standard techniques
  • Coordinate sample collections and testing with site contractors to minimize interruption of their work. 
  • Report to client status of work.
  • Initiate special work permits in compliance with clients’ requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, and licenses
  • ACI Field Certification – Grade 1
  • Additional MN/DOT certifications to meet job requirements
  • Ability to document complete job including notes on client contacts, action in the field, subsequent laboratory tests with dates and times noted for review purpose.
  • Ability to maintain a tactful attitude when talking to project engineers, owners, contractors, and architects, and to remember the importance of maintaining good client relations.
  • Ability to talk knowledgeably to project engineers and/or contractor about the jobs as required concerning work progress and necessary recommendations.
  • Ability to accurately and fluently convey thoughts orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle with in company policy.  A valid driver’s license is required.
Competencies
  • Ability to determine types of testing to conduct
    Select representative samples so as to assure reliable results
    Notify and warn clients when conditions are substandard
Education Two years technical/trades training
Experience/Certification Minimum experience level:   2 years
Physical requirements Work is primarily performed outdoors with indoor laboratory testing as the need arises. Degree of required physical force: Required to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
