Stork delivers goods to hurricane victims

HOUSTON, TX - September 27, 2005

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita brought life and business to a standstill in a huge region of the Southern U.S., and its repercussions are affecting Stork and Stork Materials Technology employees directly and indirectly.

It was reported in the Stork Monitor "that two permanent and nine temporary employees of Stork Bronswerk Inc. have been affected by hurricane Katrina. All employees working at Stork Bronswerk’s Sales Office, located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, were evacuated. Three projects in the New Orleans region were also affected; all work was stopped completely but has restarted. It emerged through the limited communication channels available that wind and water caused
serious damage to many homes. As far as we know at present, one colleague’s home was even destroyed completely. Stork Bronswerk is organising support for our colleagues in the disaster area."

After Hurricane Rita during the weekend of the 23rd, Stork Southwestern Laboratories' Beaumont location was closed down and as of this writing was inaccessible, though reportedly not showing structural damage. "By Monday, we're going to try to get in and get equipment and projects to complete in our Houston laboratory," said J. Doehring, Stork SwL Chief Operating Officer. "Our Houston and Texas City laboratories had no damage, though we'll need to do some clean up and remove some tree limbs. We're most concerned about our 18 Beaumont employees, who evacuted before the storm and who may have sustained heavy or even total damage to their homes in the area. A few weeks ago, we asked for donations to pass on to Katrina evacuees who were pouring into Houston; we may now need to rely once again on the generosity of Stork employees to help out their colleagues in Beaumont."

Following Katrina, a donation drive throughout the Stork USA network brought in several truckloads of goods for hurricane victims, which were shipped at Stork expense to the American Red Cross in Houston.
