Telecommunications Equipment Testing

Telecommunications equipment needs to perform properly at all times, and especially under adverse conditions, emergencies,  or disasters. Telecom testing is a requirement for manufacturers and designers.

NEBS requirements and NEBS testing

Stork experts test telecommunications network equipment to GR-63-CORE: NEBS™ Requirements Physical Protection, a specification developed by Telcordia. This specification refers to physical qualification testing for telecommunications network equipment installed in an office building or other weather-protected, temperature-controlled location, and includes temperature extremes of –40° to 70°C for nonoperational storage tests. It also includes an 8-day operating-temperature humidity test profile that runs from –5° to 55°C. Packaging qualification is achieved by the successful completion of transportation, vibration, and handling tests. Other tests include heat dissipation, illumination or readability, altitude, acoustics, contamination, operational sine vibration, and disasters such as fire and earthquake.

NEBS™ stands for Network Equipment-Building System and describes the environment of a typical Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC) Central Office (CO). This description includes spatial and environmental criteria. NEBS™ was developed by Bell Labs in the 1970s to standardize equipment that would eventually be installed in a CO and to simplify the design and deployment of telecommunications equipment in the Bell System. Telcordia, and its predecessor, Bellcore, has maintained the NEBS™ documents since the divestiture of the Bell System in 1984. NEBS™ requirements are utilized all over the world for a host of commercial, utility and defense applications.

Other telecommunications test specifications and standards

In addition to NEBS testing, Stork experts also perform testing to the European ETSI 300-019-XXX (Physical Protection) and ETSI 300-386 (EMI/EMC) test standards for telecom equipment. Stork can qualify your unit to GR-1089 in a completely controlled environment. Additional in-house telecom testing includes CE Mark, FCC certification, Product/Electrical Safety, wireless, and Bluetooth.

Verizon testing: Stork a Verizon Certified ITL

Stork Garwood Laboratories, Inc. has been accepted as a Verizon Independent Testing Laboratory (ITL). This allows Garwood Labs to test products for submittal to Verizon for Telcordia NEBS GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE test programs. Stork Garwood is proud to be among very few test laboratories in the country approved by Verizon for testing telecom products for utilization in Verizon networks.
